HBO’s The White Lotus returned for its highly anticipated third season on February 16, 2025, consisting of 8 episodes and following the lives of the wealthy guests and staff at a luxurious, wellness resort in Thailand. The new season expands on themes of wealth, spirituality, and power dynamics, as creator Mike White wanted to invoke a “satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality”.

Legendary singer Roberta Flack, known for her timeless, iconic songs like The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly with His Song, passed away on February 24, 2025, from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALC) and eventually cardiac arrest, at the age of 88. A classically trained pianist turned R&B and jazz musician, Flack’s soulful voice earned her multiple Grammy Awards and a lasting impact on music history.

Kendrick Lamar, the winner of 17 Grammys and first rap musician to win a Pulitzer Prize, was chosen by NFL’s head of music Seth Dudowsky to perform in New Orleans at the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Their choice is further backed up by Dudowsky’s statement : “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”
On January 5, the 82nd Golden Globes was held and hosted by Nikki Glaser. Not only was it the number one broadcasted special over the past twelve months, but it was also viewed by over ten million people. This award ceremony nominated various actors and films, ranging from the actors in Wicked to those in The Brutalist. The following are five of the rewards given out during the Golden Globes, as well as their winners and nominees:

Stranger Things 5, The fifth and final season of the Smash hit TV show Stranger Things was officially announced and confirmed by Netflix on February 17, 2022. The season is currently filming and is said to be released in 2025.

The University of Guelph is offering a unique course on Taylor swift, a unique pop icon starting this winter semester. The name will be “Taylor swift: Music, Media and Meaning” and will explore her music, lyrics and cultural influence, giving students an in-depth look at one of the world’s most successful pop artists.

After 15 years of waiting, Harry Potter, Hermione, and Ron are coming back on screen, with a set release date in 2026 on HBO. The series was first announced in 2023 and is estimated to take a decade to complete.
